Hair loss and thinning hair in men are very common with over 60% of men expected to have thinning hair and baldness in their lives. Hair loss can cause great emotional distress.

It has been proven to regrow hair in some cases and slow down further hair loss and thinning, although these depend on the individual and there is no way of predicting how successful it will be. Minoxidil comes as a liquid and is applied to the hair and scalp two times per day. It can be used by both men and women though in different strengths. Men can use a maximum strength of 5 % whereas women can use up to 3 % strength. Again the results cannot be predicted and depend on the person. With both products, usage is ongoing or the results will be lost.
Despite the fact that these are the only two medically proven treatments for thinning hair in men and hair loss there are many products claiming to thicken hair. If one does decide to try other products and solutions it is definitely advisable to thoroughly research what one is buying in terms of ingredients and quality and safety.
Other alternatives or complements to a medical approach to thinning hair is the use of wigs and hair pieces. Although expensive at the top end the results can be excellent.
