Steam ironing is a process in which wrinkles are removed from fabric using super heated steam. This appliance is very light and safe to handle so that even a small child can work with it. The steam iron process and the normal iron process are one and the same; the only difference is that in steam iron process there is a provision for spraying steam. The steam iron consist of a holding tank into which the water is poured, water used is usually distilled water. With the use of special heating elements the water in the tank is heated and converted into steam. The steam produced in the tank is made to come out through a number of holes which are present at the bottom of the sole plate of the steam iron. Once the steam is passed through the fabric, it loosens the individual fibers of the clothes, and the wrinkles are smoothened out with the help of the pressing action of the user.
Some of the advanced steam iron systems uses the handheld wand feature, with the help of which the uniformly clouds steam in a vertically hanging curtains or garments. In this method the steam itself is used to remove the wrinkles without depending on the pressing force of the user.
Several advanced features can be added to steam iron to enhance its uses. Level of steam applied to the fabric can be controlled with the help of advanced technologies. This depends on the condition of the fabric used. The use of steam is optional in some models.
A dialing mechanism is used in the advanced steam irons which can be used to adjust the steam intensity that is produced. Fabrics in clothes will not be damaged by this steam iron unless it is over heated. The appliance will be automatically switched off if it is over heated. Therefore, there is no chance of spoilage of clothes. Most of the steam iron appliances are lined at the bottom with Teflon, even though it is costlier. This makes the difference from normal iron box. Advanced steam irons are light in weight and compact.
In one or the other way, steam iron is more useful than a normal ion box. Those who love to wear cotton clothes can make efficient use of this appliance. One should be sure that steam iron does not consume more current. This appliance was invented only to relieve the stress of people during ironing. Thus steam ironing has assisted in human life.
